WES LEE O. UMLOR, PS, PE

President

Prior to starting The Umlor Group, Wes began his career working for a Bay City, MI-based firm, providing both private and public companies with land surveying, construction engineering, and land development management services on large $10M+ commercial, residential, and municipal projects throughout Michigan. In 2003, he joined a large national homebuilder as a Land Development Manager in the Metro Detroit division. After gaining invaluable industry knowledge, he decided in 2007 to pursue his lifelong dream of starting his own consulting company.

A strong proponent of top-notch customer service, Wes has led the company through consistent, well-managed growth—from one employee in 2007 to 65 employees as of 2025. He has overseen the successful completion of projects in nearly every industry, including energy, utilities, commercial, residential, industrial, federal government, and municipal sectors.

Wes holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Surveying Engineering from Ferris State University, as well as an MBA from Central Michigan University. An entrepreneur at heart, Wes consistently tells his clients and employees, “My phone is always on.” During his time away from the office, he enjoys spending time and traveling with his wife, son, and daughter, as well as working in the family vineyard, Lee Creek Vineyard, in Northern Michigan.

MIKE NOLES

Senior Vice President

Mike has 35 years of experience in land development and construction. Prior to his tenure at The Umlor Group, he gained commercial construction experience at Turner Construction Company, including work on the Greater Columbus Convention Center. He later managed operations for Best Asphalt, Inc., where he grew revenues from $4.5M to $10M in four years.

Mike served as a multi-family building superintendent with Silverman Building Company before gravitating toward land development management. He managed entitlements, development, and final dedications for multiple residential communities. Toll Brothers acquired Silverman Companies in March 1999.

Mike’s two decades with Toll Brothers included serving as Senior Vice President of Land Development, overseeing land development operations in MI, IL, MN, OH, and TX. Land acquisitions, due diligence, and entitlements are Mike’s areas of expertise.

TERRY LYONS

Director of Field Services

Terry earned his Associate of Applied Science in Architectural Technology and Residential Design in 2004. His professional certifications include Green Build certification and EGLE Construction Site Storm Water Operator certification. Terry joined The Umlor Group in 2011 and has been managing field operations ever since. He utilizes his extensive knowledge of residential and commercial construction to successfully handle a wide range of challenges.

Prior to joining The Umlor Group, Terry worked in the construction field, gaining real-world experience across the U.S. on numerous large-scale commercial and residential projects. His reliable and productive nature has proven to be a strong asset to the company. Terry is highly proficient in AutoCAD 2D and 3D drafting and is knowledgeable in all aspects of land surveying.

STEVE ALLEN

Director of Design Services

Starting at a drafting table in 1990, hand-drawing plot plans and surveys for a small firm in Livonia, Michigan, Steve brings more than 35 years of experience in land planning, civil design, and surveying.

Serving clients ranging from next-door neighbors, local builders, and small parcel owners to large national builders, contractors, and energy providers, Steve’s experience—both in the office and in the field—offers a unique and well-qualified perspective on development projects of all types.

Since joining The Umlor Group in April 2019, Steve has taken pride in fostering both personal and professional relationships to establish and grow a competent, capable, and friendly design team—well-versed in land development processes and willing to do whatever it takes to exceed expectations and see residential and commercial design projects through from initial concept to construction completion.

Outside the office, Steve is passionate about spending time with family and friends. He is a devoted husband, proud father of two sons, a lover of music, movies, and theater, and an avid golfer and sports fan. He also found additional purpose and joy coaching baseball for 17 years and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Greater Canton Youth Baseball & Softball Association.
